Barack Obama: makes your skin soft

Barack Obama: cures cancer

Barack Obama: stops aging

At least that is what you would think listening to his zealous supporters.   I think everyone, Hillary and McCain included, is starting to realize just how inspirational a speaker Obama is. Listening to one of his speeches you can’t help but be reminded of the famous orations by Kennedy, Martin Luther King, or even Lincoln.

Why are so many becoming inspired by this one man?  Has it really been that long since this country has had a truly inspirational leader?  Yes, it has.  Not since civil rights era politics has there been a speaker as compelling and gifted as Obama.

  • Nixon?  Hardly.
  • Carter?  Was elected because he wasn’t Nixon.
  • Reagan?  Close.  Certainly engaging and a gifted speaker, capable of relating to masses of Americans on very simple terms.  But he wasn’t a truly inspirational speaker.  And he had no real dream of “hope” - unless you count hope of lower taxes.
  • Bush 1.0?  About as bad as Carter.
  • Clinton?  Again, close.  Bill was incredibly engaging, and a master manipulator.  And he did have a few lofty goals.  But not quite in the league of the masters.
  • Bush 2.0?  Let’s just say he can’t even say a four syllable word without fumbling it.

And maybe it’s because this time, there are hugely important stakes of a magnitude we haven’t faced in the past three and a half decades.  And because Obama is not just on the right side of the issues, he’s capable of inspiring hundreds of millions of people to DO SOMETHING about them:

  • Global warming :  “It’s the planet stupid” .  The US has steadfastly opposed actions to save not only the world our children will inherit from us, but also the entire planet.
  • Healthcare :  Costs have literally spiraled out of control.  Access to a doctor is a human right, and tens of millions of Americans can’t afford insurance.
  • Collapsing US economy.  No, it’s not just a recession.  It’s a fundamental loss of global competitiveness as evidenced by massive and increasing trade deficits. On some level, we have to produce something the rest of the world wants.  Otherwise they’re going to stop lending us money to buy all those cheap Chinese goods.
  • War :  Someone needs to manage our way out of a hugely expensive and unjustified war.
So, there is a hell of a lot at stake here.  And the difference between the republican and democratic party beliefs has never been clearer.

Obama: cures global warming

Obama: provides healthcare to millions

Obama: saves US economy

Obama: ends war.

 Believe it.

So, what will the great 'orator' Obama do to save our economy? What will he do when terrorists attack us again (esp after he takes away our position as a superpower)...

Speeches don't solve problems...actions do.

Good questions. Indeed, speeches don't solve problems. I think his approach to the war or terror is 1,000 times more logical than Bush's. While Bin Laden and the terrorists were still alive and safe somewhere in the hills of Afghanistan, the US redirected our military forces to Iraq, where there were no terrorists AT ALL. This was a huge strategic blunder, no only because it took forces away from finding and killing Bin Laden, but also because the unjustified invasion severely undermined our alliances with dozens of our allies. And on to of that, it was the most powerful recruiting campaign for budding terrorists in the history of the world.

Obama plans to refocus our forces in Afghanistan (and if necessary Pakistan) to kill Bin Laden.

As for the economy... the reality is that neither candidate has a very good plan. But in a severe downturn, Obama will focus resources on minimizing the pain.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

If you think Obama is the antiwar candidate.. think again, just because he isn't McCain doesn't mean he isn't going to pull a bait and switch and just continue to play the global chess game of wars of imperialism to pave the way for global governance.

If you look at all the candidates, with only one exception they were universally CFR globalists. When you own all the candidates.. You own the election. Those that falsely believe that they are free are the most hopelessly enslaved. Have fun watching the middle class dissappear forever.

By the exception, I assume you mean Ron Paul. I loved watching Ron Paul in the debates. It was like watching one real person and a bunch of phonies. Whenever he spoke it made them and their rhetoric look naked.

I have to respectfully disagree with your argument though. It's true that most candidates, democratic and republican, share a lot of similar practices if not promises. But I do believe that Obama is an intellectual person with firm principles. He was one of the few people with enough guts to oppose the Iraq war in the first place. And I am hopeful that he will be far thinking enough to pursue policies that align the US views on human rights as opposed to short term alliances with dictators and tyrants.

I think he's gonna cure cancer, really.

But seriously, we were marketed brand "Obama" like you'd market anything in consumer driven society, by skirting the real issues and getting everyone worked up so they make half informed (at best) decisions at the pools without giving any real thought or doing any real research in to the people their being sold on, and most people didn't even understand what the hell they we're voting for. It's the same old car with a new paint job. The actions of the current administration coupled with the actions of the new one will only bring us hyper inflation and a massive tax burden on the middle to upper class. If you don't believe me please copy and paste this, save it for two years, and then you can write me back apologize for not paying attention carefully to whom you vote for. We're in for a bumpy ride my little sheep, strap in.

You're right about one thing. It was probably the best consumer marketing campaign ever. Very, very impressive. The one thing that's a little scary is how people idolize him.

Look, I hope you're wrong. I read his book, etc, and did about as much research as I could. I think he's got a fresh attitude and genuinely has his heart in the right place. Is he going to make some mistakes? Yes. But we're coming off of one of the worst, insular presidencies in history, and Obama was be best choice for bringing the country back together in a time of extreme crisis (domestic and international).

Time will tell, and if I'm wrong, I'll send you a note 2 years from now. But I doubt it
